It has been a whirlwind week around here because I am officially a married woman!

Yes — after six and a half years together, I married my partner this past Saturday. The day was filled with moments that felt both monumental and utterly familiar. People often ask whether marriage changes everything. For us, it feels like the same relationship with a few new formalities: we still share the same home, the routines we built together remain, and we still laugh about the same small things. The most tangible differences are my new last name and an extra ring on my hand, reminders of a commitment we’ve already been living.

The wedding day flew by in a blur of emotion, hugs, and celebration. You blink and suddenly the night is over. Surrounded by family and friends, we felt so fortunate to mark this milestone with the people who matter most to us. There were quiet moments too — a few private smiles, a shared dance, and the comfort of standing beside someone who knows you deeply. Those small, intimate memories are what I keep returning to when I think back on the day.

I’ll share more details about the ceremony, the little pieces that made the day ours, and some photos soon. For now, I wanted to write about something immediate and simple that has been keeping me grounded and happy: avocado toast.

Avocado toast is one of those everyday joys that never gets old. I could eat a version of this every day. Living in California means I have access to consistently great avocados, and that abundance makes a simple dish feel celebratory. The creamy, slightly nutty texture of a ripe avocado, brightened with a squeeze of lime and a pinch of spice, is comfort food that also feels fresh and modern.
Ingredients
- 1 slice of bread
- 1/2 ripe avocado, mashed
- 1 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 tsp fresh lime juice
- Pinch of garlic salt, to taste
Directions
- Cut the ripe avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a small bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado until it reaches your preferred texture — smooth or slightly chunky.
- Add the lime juice, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of garlic salt to the mashed avocado. Stir to combine and taste, adjusting seasonings as needed. The lime brightens the flavor and helps keep the avocado from browning quickly.
- Toast the slice of bread to your desired level of crispness. A sturdier, artisanal bread can hold the avocado better and add pleasant texture contrast.
- Spread the avocado mixture evenly over the warm toast. If you like extra heat, sprinkle a few additional red pepper flakes on top. Optionally finish with a light drizzle of olive oil, a grind of black pepper, or a few flakes of sea salt for added complexity.
- Serve immediately while the toast is still warm. Avocado toast is a versatile base — add a fried egg, cherry tomatoes, or fresh herbs if you want to elevate it for a more substantial meal.
Simple recipes like this are perfect for busy mornings, a quick lunch, or a late-night snack after an eventful day. As life settles into this new chapter, I find comfort in these small rituals — making a quick breakfast, sharing a toast, and sitting down together. They are the everyday moments that stitch together the bigger ones.
Thank you for celebrating this change with me. I look forward to sharing more about the wedding and our plans in the days ahead, and in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this easy mashed avocado toast. It’s unfussy, adaptable, and always satisfying.
