Looking for an appetizer that’s elegant, simple, and utterly delicious? Whipped goat cheese crostini topped with fig jam, honey, toasted walnuts, and fresh thyme is one of my favorite quick bites. It comes together in about 15 minutes and works beautifully for holidays, dinner parties, or casual get-togethers. These crostini are sweet and savory with cozy, comforting flavors that please a crowd.

As summer gives way to fall, I find myself reaching for easy, seasonal appetizers—crostini always fit the bill. The combination of goat cheese and fig is a classic for a reason: the tangy, slightly funky cheese contrasts beautifully with the sticky sweetness of fig preserves and honey. Brushed on crisp olive oil toasts and finished with herbs and walnuts, these bites are irresistible.
If you’re short on time, this recipe is a fantastic low-effort, high-reward option. Serve the crostini on their own or alongside other small toasts for a crostini spread.
Soft goat cheese

For the best texture, use a soft, spreadable goat cheese — a mild chèvre or brands like Laura Chenel work well. The other ingredients you’ll need are honey, olive oil, fresh rosemary and thyme, kosher salt and black pepper, crostini (store-bought or homemade), fig preserves, and walnuts. Choose a flavorful fig jam to add a bright fruity note.
Some goat cheeses can be quite tangy or “gamey.” For this recipe I prefer a milder, tangy style that complements the honey and herbs, but use whichever goat cheese you like best.
Food processor (optional)
A food processor makes whipping the goat cheese quick and effortless — just 1–2 minutes until smooth and creamy. If you don’t have one, a rubber spatula or hand mixer will work; it just takes a bit more elbow grease.
Whip the cheese

Layer and bake

These crostini are great served warm, but you can skip the broil step and serve them chilled if preferred.

Make-ahead tips
Leftover assembled crostini can become soggy, so I don’t recommend storing them once built. However, you can prepare components in advance: make the whipped goat cheese and toast the crostini up to two days ahead. When guests arrive, spread the cheese, add the fig preserves, briefly broil, and garnish.
Other topping ideas
If you want to vary flavors by season or pantry ingredients, try these alternatives:
- Strawberries, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze
- Classic bruschetta or burst cherry tomatoes
- Roasted asparagus with sliced almonds
- Hot pepper jelly with toasted walnuts

Whipped Goat Cheese Crostini with Fig & Honey
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup roughly chopped walnuts (60 grams)
- 8 ounces soft goat cheese (228 grams)
- 2 Tablespoons honey (42 milliliters)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh rosemary, plus more for garnish
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme, plus more for garnish
- Kosher salt & freshly-ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup fig preserves (160 grams)
- 24 crostini (homemade or store-bought)
Equipment
- Food processor (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the broiler to HIGH and line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Toast the chopped walnuts in a skillet over medium heat, stirring until golden and fragrant. Transfer to a bowl to cool.
- Crumble the goat cheese into a food processor. Add honey, olive oil, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. Blend until the mixture is smooth and whipped, about 1–2 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Arrange the crostini on the prepared sheet pan. Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of the whipped goat cheese on each crostini, then top with about 1 teaspoon of fig preserves.
- Broil the crostini for 1–2 minutes until the cheese warms and softens slightly. Remove from the oven and garnish each piece with 1 teaspoon of chopped walnuts and a sprinkle of minced rosemary or thyme. Serve immediately.
Notes
Choose a mild, tangy goat cheese if you prefer a subtler flavor; stronger varieties will give a more pronounced tang. If you don’t have a food processor, use a rubber spatula or hand mixer to blend the cheese until smooth. Serve warm or skip the broil step to serve chilled crostini.
