Kentucky Sunset: Scenic Spots and Photo Ideas for Golden Hour

This Kentucky Sunset cocktail was one of the drinks I enjoyed when I first tasted Bulleit Bourbon Barrel Strength in New York City.

I enjoy crafting bold bourbon and whiskey cocktails like this one. If you like rye or fruit-forward whiskey drinks, check out my classic Sazerac and a fruity Blackberry Whiskey Sour for more inspiration.

A Tasty Bourbon Cocktail Recipe

A few months ago I was invited to American Cut in Tribeca to sample Bulleit Barrel Strength and to possibly meet the founder, Tom Bulleit.

American Cut is a classic steakhouse with oysters, crab cakes and prime steaks. We sampled several appetizers that evening and everything was excellent. I’ll definitely go back for a full dinner—and maybe tackle the Tomahawk chop for two.

But the highlight for me was the cocktails. There was plenty of Bulleit to try, and my favorite drink of the night was this Kentucky Sunset, featuring Bulleit Barrel Strength.

Even better, I got to meet Tom Bulleit in person. He signed my bottle and spent time chatting—he was genuinely friendly and easy to talk with.

It was a memorable evening—definitely one of those moments you don’t forget.

I should also mention that while this Kentucky Sunset is a standout cocktail, I often enjoy the Barrel Strength neat. It’s bold and complex enough to sip on its own—no mixers required.
