What Temperature to Cook Steak Bites in the Air Fryer?

Air fryer models vary, but we consistently get great results at 400°F (about 200°C). Preheat the air fryer — the hot environment promotes a good sear on the outside while allowing you to reach medium-rare or any preferred doneness inside. If you prefer medium or well-done steak bites, simply add a few extra minutes. After your first batch on your specific air fryer, you’ll quickly learn the exact timing that works for you.

Best Recipe for Air Fried Steak Bites

These steak bites are addictive — you’ll want to make them often. Serve them plain, with potatoes, or pair with mushrooms, asparagus, or other vegetables. If you add firm vegetables or potatoes, parboil them first so everything finishes at the same time. Alternatively, cook the steak bites first, then use the resting time to air fry the vegetables.

What Types of Steak to Use for Air Fryer Steak Bites

  • Use your preferred steak cut.
  • Good choices include ribeye, sirloin, tri-tip, or chuck shoulder (London Broil), depending on budget and taste.

Air Fryer Steak Bites (with or without potatoes)

Cook Time:

Total Time:

Cook the steak bites on their own or add mushrooms, asparagus, or other vegetables. If serving with potatoes, cut them roughly half the size of the steak bites so they cook evenly. Baby gold or pee-wee potatoes work well when halved or quartered. For a keto-friendly meal, omit potatoes and choose lower-carb vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. (454 g) steaks, cut into 1/2” cubes & patted dry
  • 1/2 lb. (227 g) potatoes (optional), cut into 1/2” pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) butter, melted (or oil)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) garlic powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Minced parsley, for garnish
  • Melted butter for finishing (optional)
  • Chili flakes for finishing (optional)

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook about 5 minutes, until nearly tender, then drain.
  • Combine the steak cubes and parboiled potatoes. Toss with melted butter (or oil), Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to coat evenly.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (about 200°C) for 4 minutes.
  • Arrange the steak and potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 400°F for 10–18 minutes, shaking or flipping about three times during cooking. Cooking time depends on your preferred doneness, steak thickness, and air fryer size.
  • Check the steak for doneness. If you prefer it more cooked, add 2–5 extra minutes as needed.
  • Garnish with parsley and drizzle with optional melted butter or sprinkle chili flakes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper and serve warm.

Notes

  • These instructions were tested in 3–4 quart air fryers. Larger models may cook faster, so adjust time accordingly.
  • Preheating the air fryer creates a better sear. If you skip preheating, add a bit more cooking time.
  • Set a timer to shake, flip, or toss the food a few times during the cook for even browning.
